What Do Students Say About CPR Northwest Washington?

Our instructor was the owner and he was excellent! He made it very clear and easy to pass. There was more hands on and less boring video. On top of that it was cheaper than most BLS classes for healthcare providers. I would highly recommend this class.

Alise McCormick

Excellent CPR class! Certainly worth the drive down to Renton. Steve (instructor) does lots of hands on interactive teaching rather than just playing the video. He's certainly one of the best teachers I've ever had (in any subject).

What is CPR:

By performing CPR, you circulate the blood so it can provide oxygen to the body, the brain and other organs while you wait for Emergency Medical Services to arrive. In most cases, there is usually enough oxygen still in the blood, (in the red blood cells) to keep the brain and other organs alive for a number of minutes. However, blood  is not circulating if the heart has stopped beating. This is why a trained person, who has taken a CPR class in the greater Seattle area, needs to provide CPR.

How CPR works:

The reason to take a Seattle CPR class or anywhere in the Puget Sound is that CPR is a temporary substitute for the heart’s normal function which is to transport oxygen throughout the body but especially to the brain.

Taking a CPR class Seattle can provide you with the ability to artificially provide oxygen to the body, giving the patient the best chance for survival. Along with supplying Oxygen to the brain, the other important part of a CPR class is to learn how to get the heart beating again. Most heart attacks happen during “ventricular fibrillation”, or sometimes known as simply “fibrillation” or V-Fib. This is when the ventricles (chambers in the heart muscle) do not receive the nerve impulse to contract simultaneously. This tends to cause the different regions of the heart to contract in a trembling or “shivering” manner which in turn reduces “stroke volume” (the amount of blood per beat) and does not allow sufficient blood to pump through the body, but most importantly to the brain. In the human body’s tissues, cells will die very quickly when they lose an ongoing supply of oxygen. A heart attack stops the heart from beating, stopping the flow of fresh oxygen throughout the body. Any body tissue that does not receive fresh oxygen will stop its metabolic processes and become victim to hypoxia.

Using an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is important when the human heart enters a period of Ventricular fibrillation (a heart rhythm problem that occurs when the heart beats with rapid, erratic electrical impulses that resemble a “shivering”). This irregular heart rhythm causes the large pumping chambers in your heart (the ventricles, the heart’s lower, pumping chambers) to quiver. This reduces “stroke volume”, which is the amount of blood per contraction pumped through the heart. In other words the ventricles “fibrillate”, which means the heart is no longer pumping blood. Another way to describe this condition is to say that Fibrillation is an uncontrolled twitching or quivering of muscle fibers (myofibrils). When it occurs in the lower chambers of the heart, it is called VF, VFib or Ventricular Fibrillation. Sometimes when triggered by a heart attack, ventricular fibrillation causes your blood pressure to decrease dramatically which in turn reduces or stops blood supply to your vital organs and most importantly, to the brain. The quickest and most effective treatment in the event of a Ventriicular Fibrillation is to use an AED. CPR Seattle by CPR Northwest Washington provides you with the best in AED training to empower you with the ability to stop a life-threatening heart attack.  Our CPR training and certification is second to none as well.
